Voice Actor Carl Bishop: The Back Story
A toddler in feet pajamas (remember those?) taps a snare drum next to his mother as she plays piano. A few summers come and go. Now he sits on the floor playing his older brothers copy of Eric Clapton’s 461 Ocean Blvd. over and over. He’s fascinated by the sounds and wonders how the recording was made. A few more summers pass and now his long hair hangs over his lanky frame. He lopes across the quad at S.U.N.Y. Fredonia toward Mason Hall for his voice lesson. It was always a delight to see the surprise that fell across faces as he let out this huge, ringing, Baritone.
From College Radio DJ to Professional Voice Actor in NYC
A quick u-turn steered him away from the Opera stage and into the radio studio of WBFO Buffalo, where he began producing and hosting a Blues program. He interviewed legends, spun records and most of all, told stories through an Electrovoice re20.
He traded Buffalo’s shuffle for Houston’s humid heat and a ratings stampede to the top of Rock radio. Next, he found himself in the relative calm of Indianapolis and immersed himself in Audio Production and Voice Over. But his eyes were always looking back east and to the endless skyline of New York.
Soon, agents and casting directors became his new family and studios became his new home. The long hair long gone, and the frame still sort-of lanky, the story continues. But the feet pajamas have been retired.
Happy Clients
People Are Saying...
“Carl is one of my favorite VO talents. His read is always spot on, he takes direction great from clients and he’s easy to work with and just a great guy too. His ISDN studio is fantastic and he has Source-Connect as well.”
“I have the pleasure of recording Carl Bishop for one of our national clients, and he is absolutely fantastic to work with! Carl always embraces the spirit of the script, which I believe sets his work way above the rest. Qualified, responsible, and always accommodating. A voice this good makes my job easy.”
“Carl understands the very specialized, nuanced world of political spots, so his reads are dead-on. He’s also willing to be available 24/7 during a campaign. An essential for someone voicing a tight race.”
“The audio quality of Carl’s work is outstanding, and his tone is welcoming and also knowledgeable, which was perfect for our Public Health project.”
Available For
Male voice for Democratic Political Advertising
Voicing spots for Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign was Carl’s first Political VO gig. He’s since gone on to voice campaigns for many DNC candidates and Democratic PACs. Being a life-long Democrat and political junkie, he understands what the party stands for. And it shows in every read.
TV Documentary Narration and Reality TV Narration
Carl’s passion for story telling is evident in the work he’s done in Wildlife Documentaries about creepy Cicada’s and Invaders, Reality shows about Storm Riders – those guys that chase tornados – and Big-Time RV’s.
Voice Over for Beer commercials
Advertising for alcoholic beverages these days is almost exclusively comedic. Budweiser ditched the horse-drawn Americana of the Clydesdales and now feature knights in blue armor saying “Dilly Dilly”. This commercial I voiced for Keystone Light is an over-the-top take on the Cop Drama’s of the 70’s and 80’s
Pharmaceutical Commercial VO
One of my first ‘big-time’ voice over gig’s was for the Advair bronchial inhaler. It showcased what my agent calls my “money read”; a warm, comforting, empathetic tone that opened the doors to many other Pharma campaigns.
eLearning and Remote Learning
Training employees from a distance is becoming the norm for almost every industry. Carl delivers content with authority and clarity for The US Army, Pepsi, Port Authority of NY/NJ, and many others.
Accents and Charachters
Authenticity is key when creating a character or using an accent in voice over. Carl Bishop has the ears and talent to deliver an accent or become a character that feels ‘lived-in’ and alive.
Video Games
As the voice of Bandit, Carl’s voice acting is well known in the gaming world. Based on Tom Clancey’s novel series, the game Rainbow Six Siege is hugely popular and Carl’s voice character Bandit is played and loved by millions of Gamers.
